LITTLE PRACTICE. BIG CURIOSITY.

First Grade Math Games

First grade brings new ways to think about numbers. Number Bridge gives children ten short stories to build with counters, helping them connect addition and subtraction with amounts they can see. Play without signing in and use the Listen button whenever a story needs reading aloud.

What your child can practice

Number Bridge: add and subtract within 20

Start with familiar amounts, then explore numbers up to 20. Add one counter at a time or tap counters to take them away. After building the story, choose from four answers. A mistaken answer leaves time to count again, and every completed challenge earns one saved star.

Use ten frames and explain a strategy

Each frame holds ten counters in two rows of five. Children can count on from the first number, fill a frame to make ten, or take away enough to reach ten before continuing. Hints introduce these strategies without completing the activity for the child.

A FEW MINUTES TOGETHER

How to get started

  1. Open First grade on the classroom home page and choose Number Bridge.
  2. Listen to a story, then add or take away the counters it describes.
  3. Ask your child how the ten frames helped them before choosing an answer.

There is no time limit for answering. A correct answer moves to the next question after five seconds; Next moves on sooner. Follow your child’s pace and pause whenever they need a break.

Learning at home, your way

Great teachers give children guidance and encouragement every day. Families can build on classroom lessons or use these games for extra practice alongside their homeschool curriculum. Choose what connects with your child’s interests and what you are teaching.
